Obituary for ALLEN DAVENPORT HUNTER

Allen Davenport Hunter, 76, was born on October 2, 1941, in Verona, New Jersey; he said his final “see ya’” in Folsom, California on November 13, 2017.

He graduated from Nichols College, in Dudley, Mass; and went on to become a Commercial Insurance Executive for companies such as Transamerica. In the early part of his career, he had the first briefcase cell phone and was known to move railroad ties with his company car. His work did not define him; rather it was his laugh and smile that defined him. When he retired, he finally got to pursue his true passion of golf where he achieved 6 verified hole-in-ones; his golf game score was always maximized by his ability to intimidate his fellow golfers.

Most of all, he dearly loved his family and had a heart of gold. He was a wonderful son, his Mother always blushed about him, and he was always there for her; they had an unbreakable bond that transcended through the generations.

He believed in you even if you didn’t believe in yourself. He was loyal and his heart was his guide.

As a husband of 30 years, he was a life partner, and he shared my love of music, even if I had to drag him there….we saw Carole King, the musical, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. He made me laugh even when I didn’t feel like laughing.

He was a devoted Father, Uncle and Grandfather, who put his family first; however, Caroline would say don’t have him file your income taxes. He always bestowed his wisdom to any family members, while letting everyone make their own decisions. To his grandchildren, he was known as Pop-Pop and he couldn’t wait to become a grandfather, and it couldn’t come soon enough.

Allen was the family Patriarch, and could be counted on anytime for advice, help and support, always; he was loved by neighbors and friends.

After an early morning of golf, Allen could always be found tending his many prize roses while visiting with neighbors. Known in the neighborhood as “garage man,” Allen loved smoking his pipe and watching his New York Giants try to win a game in his “man cave.” The garage ended up being our main living room, just so we could hang out, talk and ponder life together.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Debbie; son Douglas; daughter, Caroline; his 3 grandchildren Hannah, Alex and Lucas; Uncle to Dmika, Madison and Jessica; extended Father-figure to Jonathan, Hughie, Danny, Jennifer, Christina, Robin; grandfather-figure to Chelsey, Nicole, Dayton, Jenna and Nick and their children Darren and Jaxon.

This man, who touched so many lives, will be truly missed as there is now a hole in our universe. But we can be comforted to know that he will be looking out for us from above, and giving us the needed nudge every now, and again.

We’ll just say “see ya” for now. We love you and will miss you in our daily lives.
