Obituary for William James Cameron

Bill Cameron was born on June 24, 1933. He grew up in Santa Rosa California. He met his high school sweetheart, Lois Sowers, in high school and soon after high school they married. He always had a great love for music. He got his BA degree from San Francisco State University, and became a credentialed teacher in 1959. He became a band/instrumental music teacher.

He is the father of three children, Laura Cameron (Densmore), Shirley Cameron, and Bruce Cameron. He taught band/instrumental music for 30 years at the Fremont Unified School District in Fremont, Calif. In raising his family with wife Lois and the three kids, he often took the family camping, first tent camping, and then later, in an RV. They enjoyed camping in the Sierras, the Redwoods, Calaveras Big Trees, and Jackson Meadows with his brothers and sisters families. He also took the family on memorable trips to Canada and Mexico where he taught his kids how to play bumper chairs in the hotel room on a wet rainy day in Baja. He was a member of the Sierra Club, and a member of the DARE program to teach kids to say no to drugs. He was very dedicated to education and was a published composer.

On October 8th, 1980, his beloved wife, Lois, passed away. Then, on February 14, 1992, Bill began a new chapter in his life and married the second love of his life, Jean Qin, from China. In 1994, he expanded his family and adopted Ching Ching as his daughter. He sponsored her to come to the United States, where she attended high school and then college at UC Berkeley.

Together they traveled to China, Hawaii, and a took a 40 day trip to 6 different countries, including England, Turkey, France, Scotland, and Israel. Bill said "I want to travel with my partner all around the world and go as many places as possible." And that is what they did!

His hobbies were: playing the trombone, racket ball, hiking, and camping.

One of his favorite movies was "The Sound of Music" and "Classic Westerns". He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed, but we know he is now in a better place.
