Obituary for Carol Ann Bowling

Carol Ann Bowling

Carol Bowling, age 59, passed away peacefully March 12, 2019. She was born in San Francisco, California on October 30, 1959, to Max and Patricia Vella. Carol was married to Michael Andrew Bowling for 30 years and they were the parents of two children, Joni and Gerald, and grandparents of Lexi Bowling.

Carol was educated in San Francisco at St. Cecilia School and Presentation High School, and graduated from the University of California, Davis. Carol began her career as a Buyer for Macy’s before entering the banking industry rising to vice-president at Citibank.

Carol also volunteered at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom as an instructor in the Religious Education program and with the Boy Scouts of America as a Cubmaster and Commissioner. Carol always liked a challenge and to relax would build jigsaw puzzles and solve Sudoku puzzles. Carol enjoyed traveling whether through exploring the world on a cruise ship or through a good book. Carol especially found joy in taking her granddaughter to Disneyland, and she was well-known in the Disney fan community.

Her indomitable spirit and positive attitude carried Carol through a 10-year battle with Pulmonary Hypertension (PHA) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Carol’s vivacious personality and infectious smile always brought joy and laughter to all she met. We will always remember her cheerfully saying, “It’s a great day to be alive!” Her spirit and love will continue to live on in every life she touched.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 307 Montrose Drive, Folsom CA on Friday, March 15 at 10 am with a reception to follow in the Garden Room. A memorial mass will also be celebrated in San Francisco at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Avenue at a date and time to be announced once the details are finalized. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, our family invites you to make a donation to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) in memory of Carol. Carol was a long-time volunteer with PHA, leading in-person and telephone support groups. She was a generous fundraiser and spoke at many events, including PHA’s International PH Conference. Donations may be sent to 801 Roeder Rd. Suite 1000, Silver Spring, MD, 20910 or made online at www.PHAssociation.org/donate where you may select that you are making a tribute gift in memory of Carol Bowling.
