Shirley Eva Larrivee (1924-2018)

Shirley Eva Larrivee passed away in Orangevale on March 23rd, 2018 at the age of 94. She was born in Oakland, California on February 1, 1924 to Andrew and Grace Brown and grew up in Berkeley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Joseph Larrivee, mother, Grace Stouppe, sister Barbara Walthrop and brother Wallace Brown.

Shirley graduated from Berkeley High School in 1942 and went to work at Oakland Army Base in support of the World War II effort. She met and married Oliver Joseph (Larry) Larrivee, on April 8th, 1946, and they had 3 children. After completion of his military service, they lived in multiple California communities, including Castro Valley, Truckee, Sacramento and eventually Chico where they raised their children. They moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1970 where they lived and worked until Larry’s passing in 1973. Once widowed Shirley moved to Citrus Heights, where she continued to live for the remainder of her life. Shirley worked in the Banking industry for 40 plus years, eventually retiring from Bank of America in 1989.

After retirement Shirley traveled, with trips to Russia, China, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand. She particularly enjoyed the culture and art work from China, collecting art work in her travels there. Shirley was an incredibly independent woman, an excellent cook and was an avid reader, enjoying golfing and her bowling leagues.
She is survived by her children; Sheila Bridges, Lincoln, CA, Kevin Larrivee, Fresno, CA, Jan (James) Sadler, Orangevale, CA; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband, a grave site service will be held at Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, April 18th at 1:00 P.M.
Donations in Shirley’s honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
